Read this small newspaper clipping and then write a blog post about it. What are your thoughts? How does it make you feel? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.

I think this newspaper clipping is a little harsh, but it makes sense. Some people fear for the future when this generation becomes the "grown ups" in society and when we wont have our parents to rely on for almost everything. I think that teenagers should be "develop[ing] a backbone" so that we have the ability to become independent and responsible. Teenagers these days have been so looked down on and have been put in the spotlight for so many negative things, so I do think that it is time for our generation to start stepping up and doing their part, whether that be mowing the lawn or getting a degree. We have spent too much time letting the negative spotlight magnify the flaws in our generation, so it makes sense that the author of this clipping feels as if teenagers today don't contribute to society and take on their own responsibilities.

August 26 (again...)

What is a Public Service Announcement? If you don't know what it is, Google it. In your own words, now tell me what it is? What are they used for? Can you recall an example of a PSA you've seen before?

Public Service Announcements are sometimes used for non-profit organizations who need sponsors or people to donate money to their cause. A PSA that I have heard frequently is a fundraiser for a non advertisement radio station. This radio station, KLOVE, is a contemporary Christian music station that is advertisement-free, therefor they need another income to keep their station running. During the commercials in between songs, they tell stories of people who need money and throw in that they would appreciate donations to their station as well.

Blog Post of the Day:
Tell me a little bit about yourself and your life here at BVHS. What activities or clubs are you involved in? What year are you in school? What is your favorite class and/or teacher so far this year? What are you looking forward to this school year? Include some original photos from your phone if you can.

This is my third year here at Blue Valley and I am a senior. I moved to Overland Park from Houston, TX the summer after my freshman year. I don't really do much at the school, because I am highly involved in my youth group (a.k.a. my favorite place on earth), but I am a member of NHS, NSHS, possibly NHHS, I compete in Forensics in the Spring, and occasionally a member of the Environmental Club. My favorite class this year would probably be Government. I wasn't too thrilled about having to take it this year, but I have had the teacher before (Mowry) and he is really awesome so I am looking forward to what I will be learning in that course. This school year I am looking forward to graduating!!! I look forward to attending my friend's graduations in Texas because I graduate before them so I will be able to attend their graduations as well. Those are the two main things I am looking forward to this year!

After watching the short clip of Ashton Kutcher's acceptance speech what did you take away from his advice? What does this quote mean to you -"Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use."

Ashton Kutcher's second point in his acceptance speech was to always be sexy, which is something in which he is VERY informed. What he meant by this is that being "sexy" in today's society has been so mangled and distorted. Being sexy, according to Kutcher, means being intelligent, thoughtful, and generous, which are all qualities that will take anyone far in life. These are key qualities of being a genuinely nice, "sexy" person. I support this belief. I do believe that the most attractive qualities are the ones he stated. Being attractive isn't always about how you look. It's about how you live.

This quote is basically saying that you don't have to conform. You don't have to let society or the people around you influence how you want to live and how you want to act. One should create his or her own standards of living and shouldn't let others change that. For me, that means that I can live my life the way I want. I can have my own morals, I can believe my own religion, I can forget about what everybody else is doing, and build a world that means something to ME. For me, this means that the way I live my life should not be shaken by what the people around me say or believe. This supports a verse that I hold onto dearly, which basically says that I am not to conform of the world. I should not want to do what the world is doing. I don't have to drink this, do that, wear this, or look like that. I can do whatever I believe is right.
